The holidays kept us all busy and I decided to postpone the series and decided to make it a part of this beautiful month of love! I love wedding photography so sit back and enjoy today's interview with Genya of VUE Photography.
I featured VUE Photography back in June of 2011 with this gorgeous wedding that has been in Wedding Pickle's top 10 posts ever. I have been a fan since and if you haven't yet, after this interview, be sure to check out VUE Photography's website and blog. Really just cute to look at!
The wedding Genya shares with us today is of Brittany and Jay who got married back in October of last year in Panama City, Florida. One detail she included that I just found to be so amazing is that Brittany and Jay's reception was held at the house Brittany grew up in which is a house that has been passed down through family generations. How cool is that?
Wedding Pickle: What made you want to be a photographer?
Genya: My dad built my first darkroom and I knew by high school I wanted to be a photographer, so I went to college and worked my booty off, soaking up as much information as I could! When I first started out I worked for several commercial photographers, then an amazing studio...I really enjoyed all of the work experiences but soon realized that I would adore the flexibility of working for myself.
When we moved to Florida- that's exactly what I set out to do! When I was in college I never dreamed that I would shoot weddings- however I have to say that it's the exact corner of the industry that I should have been in all along! I feed off the emotion and girly excitement of the whole event! There is never a dull day! One of the ABSOLUTE best things about photography and art in general is that there is no right or wrong answer. Each person approaches and sees things differently! It's fantastic!
Genya: Hmm...the words spunky, lighthearted, explosive, genuine, honest, and at times silly come to mind.
WP: What is your favorite part of photographing weddings?
Genya: I love the nervous excitement of everyone, and I feel soooo honored that couples and families choose to share the day with me. Sometimes I think wedding photographers forget that we might do this every weekend- but to each bride- this her ONE day. The families are joining, they've planned forever, the back stories, the first meetings, the dad's approval, the proposal...it's all led up to this!
So to get to the point....the whole thing is my favorite:) Just being there is pretty darn special. And to top it off...your the one person who sees it all and hopefully will capture each hidden second. Allowing the couple to relive each facet of the event forever!
Genya: Well- most photographers would say "the kiss"! While I think that's an absolute must (more specifically you better get that shot or your a stinky photographer), my FAVORITE part is watching the bride and groom's faces during the ceremony!
WP: What is your favorite moment of your career thus far? The one that had you saying, "I love my job!" or "I'm proud of how far I have come!"
Genya: I don't think I can narrow down one specific moment!
I tend to find my self shouting " I love my job" almost every weekend!!! It's hard not to be completely thankful and overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of the families we work with! It's sounds sooooo silly but the relationships that I build with the clients make me the proudest.
